Sleep Apnea

Have you ever woken up with a headache, or felt like you didn’t get any sleep? Has your bed partner moved to the spare room because you snore, gasp, or choke in your sleep every night? If so, you might have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

OSA affects more than 18 million American adults, but not everyone seeks treatment. By visiting AZ Sleep & TMJ Solutions, Dr. Sara can help provide an individualized treatment plan in Scottsdale for snoring and sleep apnea.

What is Sleep Apnea?

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep-related breathing disorder that prevents the airflow while you are asleep. This occurs when the tissue, and often the tongue, in the back of the throat collapses and temporarily blocks the airway. As a result, it keeps air from getting into the lungs.

When your blood-oxygen level drops low enough, your body wakes up—it happens so quickly you might not even remember it happening. Subconsciously waking up hundreds of times a night disrupts normal sleep patterns and can make a person feel extremely tired and un-refreshed the next day. The frequently associated snoring creates health issues and, in addition, even disrupts the normal sleep patterns of those in your household.
