More than 75% of children have a developing malocclusion, which can be seen as early as the age of five. For treatment of temporomandibular disorder (TMD) in pediatric patients, Dr. Sara offers Myobrace for Kids™, as well as for Juniors. Through the use of these oral appliances, you can help your child’s myofacial muscles and jaws properly form. Early myofunctional orthodontic treatment using Myobrace appliances can help to address the causes of the malocclusion while your child is still growing. The use of a Myobrace appliance for your child can often prevent the need for braces or extractions.

Myobrace for Kids

Myobrace oral appliances require a three-stage system. This is designed to correct poor oral habits while also treating upper and lower jaw development problems. It has been shown to be the most effective treatment after a child’s permanent front teeth have come through and is available in three sizes:

  • K1 – this appliance is best for habit correction and jaw development. It is used to provide habit correction and its flexible silicone can easily adapt to any arch-form or poorly-aligned teeth. The flexible silicone also ensures it is good for improved retention at nighttime.
  • K2 – This is another habit correction appliance that also improves jaw development. What is unique about this appliance is it features a Dynamicore with a Frankel Cage, which means it can easily assist in developing the arch form and improving dental alignment in your children.
  • K3 – The next option is used for final alignment and retention. It has a firm polyurethane construction that provides excellent tooth alignment and retention. The hollow tongue tag also encourages final tongue position and will be used as the last phase of treatment.

The Myobrace appliances also come in broad sizes to better fit your child’s mouth. The type of appliance used will be determined by Dr. Sara at our North Scottsdale office.
